Adverse Weather Road Access
Adverse Weather Road Access
Montana roads are not all wonderfully maintained, especially in the winter. When looking at property, it’s important that you understand how the road is in the winter. Is it plowed regularly? Will you need 4-wheel drive just to attempt to get through, or maybe you’ll only able to travel by snow mobile?
Having a 3-Day Survival Kit in your car is a must in Montana as our weather is always changing.
MDT 511 gives road reports to those traveling in Montana.
Cell Phone Coverage
Cell Phone Coverage
It may be hard to imagine, for those who have lived in bigger cities, but we have several miles of Montana that have no cell phone coverage. If your vehicle breaks down, or you run out of gas, will you be walking several miles to get to an area with cell phone reception? What kind of phone line will you need in your home?
Fire / Emergency Services
Fire / Emergency Services
Do you have health issues? Does your home have a Fire Sprinkler System? Many Montana Rural Fire Departments are volunteers and, though they get to you as quickly as they can, they may not be able to get to you as quickly as you need.
Internet Access
Internet Access
Do you telework from home? Will you need internet access? Not all of Montana has easy access to internet, it’s a good idea to find out ahead of time.
Power Outages
Power Outages
In Montana’s rural areas, it is not common for us to run into issues such as a power outage after a storm that can keep the lights off for several days at a time. Thanks to the weather you can find here, you may encounter a car battery which freezes and fails to start your vehicle. Having a backup power/heat supply is essential in Montana.
It is imperative that when you have your home in the state you have the basic survival supplies needed for at least 7 days.
No Public Transportation
No Public Transportation
You can ignore the thought of living in Montana without owning a car unless you want to stay in a bigger city and never want to leave. Since winters can be difficult here, having a four-wheel-drive vehicle to meet your needs is almost 100 per cent important.
